02.06.10 - Hear what mixes sound like in the rainforest.
An update from Stephen Carroll on how the album mixing is going:
I went surfing and ate seaweed right from the sea floor with my teeth, and was chased by an eagle who dove in the water after me and told me underwater that we should take the trumpet out of Lost Art. We high-fived and then a salmon swam by and I asked it back to the studio. He has great mix ideas, though I think it is napping now. Gibson has carved a totem pole on his side of the couch of an orca playing a bongo (a little kitschy if you ask me... maybe that's his thing), and he keeps asking for more cymbals. We are taking regular hacky sack breaks and are smoking so much weed that Daryl was worried the hard drive was getting high and would forget all its parts. So now we are going to buy some crystal meth from the Trailer Park Boys who live in the house and I am going to break into some neighborhood houses for kix while we clean up the tracks. The Eagle said he might stop in, but him and the salmon are fighting over some overdubs from the last session. All in all going well. So yeah, when we are not watching Daryl's back we are driving around in his pickup truck listening to mixes and trying to pick fights with organic farmers or their friends. They are harder to spot than you'd think. The Salmon is a tough one. "Watch out", we say to the farmers. "He's a biter." I am going surfing in the morning to hear what the mixes sound like in the rainforest.
Best,
Stephen.

12.08.09 - Under the mattress you'll find a postcard...
Brrr... It's getting cold here in Winnipeg. Hopefully you were able to bundle up and pick up the HOT 103 Christmas album... BUT... If it was just too darn cold for you (or you just live outside of our icy city), fear not, we have made not one, but TWO versions of our holiday song "Strings and Ribbons" available on the audio/visual page.
...Or if it's too cold to click over to that page, you can just download them right here:
Strings and Ribbons. ♫
Strings and Ribbons (Extended Version) ♫
Stephen Carroll plays pedal steel on the song. It was recorded by Jack Shapira at Unison Studios sometime in 2007. We had a lot of fun that day. Enjoy!
Over the next couple weeks we're putting the finishing touches on the new songs before a short break to visit with our families/escape the cold. We're heading straight into the recording studio when we reconvene in January. Busy busy!
11.26.09 - I scrape my windows with a credit card...
Hello again. A year or two ago the four of us got together with our friends Jack Shapira and Stephen Carroll, and recorded a holiday song called "Strings and Ribbons." It periodically showed up on our myspace player. Anyways, it is now available on a benefit Christmas CD put out by local Winnipeg radio station HOT 103. We're told the CD will be on sale Friday, December 4 at One Big Day for Christmas at the Safeway on Ness Ave. by Polo Park in Madison Square for just $10. (following that day the CD will be available at HOT 103 Studios - 3rd floor 177 Lombard Ave.)

11.25.09 - If you want to speak out, speak out.
Sorry if you experienced website problems, or if emails bounced back. We tracked down the problem, and it's all fixed now.
Also, just wanted to let any interested parties know that we're now on Twitter. Find us at twitter.com/the_details. If you can peel your eyes away from Larry King (aka @KingsThings) for two seconds, maybe we'll have something interesting to say...
11.17.09 - Hold ourselves together with our arms around the stereo for hours.
Lately, we have been bombarded by questions such as "who is producing your album?" or "ma'am, why won't you get off my lawn?!" So, this morning we were digging around in our figurative 'album-news' satchel, and we found a few newsworthy items that we hoped to share with you and the rest of the world today...
First, we will not get off your lawn until you return our tennis ball.
Second, we cannot tell you the name of the person producing the album. The reason is that we have enlisted TWO people to help us produce this album! Co-Producers!!
We're very excited to announce the involvement of our dear friend and The Weakerthans axe-slayer Stephen Carroll. Sitting either stage-right, stage center, or stage-left to Stephen throughout the recording is New York's own Brandon Reid (The National). Obviously, someone forgot to inform Brandon of standard January temperatures in Winnipeg (or perhaps he is confused about the celsius/fahrenheit conversion).
Together, we're hoping these two gentlemen will help us craft an album worthy of your ears, and will keep a tight lid on any studio shenanigans preventing yet another TMZ scandal (see: 'Plett/Gibson Not Drawing Borders...' July 2008).
11.09.09 - A mess of wires and tangled cords.
Hello? Still here? Oh, good. Looks like someone (me) lost track of website updates for a few months. But that's okay. We've got a lot of news to report over the next little while. So, you may recall almost a year ago when we teased information about the upcoming album recording. Well, it's actually happening. We're just putting the final touches on the arrangements of each of the tunes before taking them into the studio in January. We're looking at locking ourselves away from the snow in Prairie Recording Co. for a couple of weeks and emerging with our indie-rock cred intact as well as minimal frostbite.
Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we'll provide further information and announce the names of all the lovely people involved in this project, who we are very excited about working with.
09.25.09 - Capture and develop this.
Just a few site updates today. Check out all the photos from the last few years we've put up on our Audio/Visual page. We've also added a remix to our song Floor Plans done by our dear friend Matt Janzen. As well, there is a sweet clip someone filmed at our last Winnipeg show at the West End Cultural Centre, featuring Halifax's Jenn Grant and her bandmates Kinley Dowling and David Christensen.
06.02.09 - Second NXNE show added in Toronto.
In addition to our Thursday night showcase at The Rivoli for North By Northeast on June 18th (10:00pm), we will also be playing a 4:00pm daytime slot at the NXPO DayStage at the Hyatt Regency, which is NXNE HQ this year.
05.28.09 - We said we wouldn't let our lives go on too long without having a little bit of fun.
It's true. The Details are coming out of hiding to play a hometown show at the newly rebuilt West End Cultural Centre on Friday, June 26th, presented by Curve 94.3. The lovely Blue Sky Addicts open the show, and expect to see some super special guests up on stage throughout the night...
Tickets are $10 in advance available now at Music Trader or online at www.thedetails.ca, or $15 at the door. Keep in mind, this is the first hometown show since November's 'Two in a row at the Lo' so tickets will go quickly...
There will also be a huge merchandise blowout that night. Everything on the merch table will be $5... T-shirts... Albums... Tote bags... Nettie... $5!!
In other news, The Details are very excited to be heading back to Toronto in June for North By Northeast. The Details play at The Rivoli on Thursday, June 18th at 10pm sharp. The full NXNE lineup can be found here.
